If you live in Cardiff then you've probably heard of Techniquest, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with the wonders of Techniquest allow me to explain.
Techniquest is a science discovery centre located in Cardiff Bay. With over 160 interactive exhibits it appeals to people of all ages.
For Toddlers
Once a month, during term time Techniquest holds a Toddler Day. As well as the exhibitions that are already on display, there are some additional activities which are put on for pre-schoolers.
For example on our last visit they had a toddler disco, story time and tables dotted around the exhibition floor with colouring, craft activities and face painting.
Some of our favourite exhibitions are the water table, which is found on the ground floor right at the very back. Although a few waterproof jackets are provided, it's always best to bring a spare pair of clothes as the jackets are often all being used and they're not that waterproof!
Another favourite is the hot air balloon, which is also downstairs.
We also love the giant piano which is upstairs, along with the spinning red chair!
Accessibility
Techniquest is pushchair friendly. I have a double pushchair and have always been able to access Techniquest easily. They have a buggy park where you can leave your pushchair if you prefer to walk around. If you do want to push your pushchair around there is a very large lift which will take you from one floor to the other.
The best thing about Techniquest toddler day is that it costs just £5 per adult. Under 4's go free!
For School Children
Schools often take children on trips to Techniquest. With hands-on exhibitions and interactive shows in the Science Theatre, there really is something for everyone.
If that's not enough there's also the Digital Planetarium where children will be in awe of the view of the nights sky.
Techniquest provides and encourages fun learning in an engaging, safe and practical environment.
For Adults
Why should the kids have all the fun? Techniquest has a special 'After Hours' night just for adults! At just £3 per person it's a great value night out!
Techniquest is such an amazing place, but when I go there with my children I often don't get the chance to look at all the exhibitions as much as I'd like to. After hours lets your inner child loose to play with all the exhibitions!
Facilities
Baby change, a cafe, toilets.

ReplyDeleteAh, we LOVE Techniquest and it was so lovely to bump into you there last week. It's such a great place, making science so fun through all the hands-on exhibits. My children love the piano and the watertable too. You should also visit on the weekend if you get the chance and see one of the shows in the Planetarium, they do one for under 7s that is fab. #binkylinky
ReplyDeleteI used to go there as a child when we holidayed in the area, I have been thinking of travelling there and taking my girls one day as I am sure they would love it. #pocolo

ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a side blog. I have a bucket list kind of thing that links to reviews of places. We did the doctor who experience in Cardiff but didn't get to do anything else may have to go back there.
